Simple Dequeue

Clean up your frontend by dequeuing unnecessary scripts and styles with a single-line filter.

What is Simple Dequeue?

Simple Dequeue is a developer-friendly WordPress plugin that gives you fine-grained control over which scripts and styles are loaded on the frontend. Instead of manually writing wp_dequeue_style() or wp_dequeue_script() calls in theme files, you just return a list of handles via a single filter.

Key Features

  • Single Filter Interface: Define all handles to dequeue in one place.
  • No Bloat: Zero settings screens or admin overhead.
  • Theme-Agnostic: Works with any theme or page builder.
  • Use for Styles or Scripts: Remove stylesheets, JavaScript files, or both.
  • Perfect for Performance: Cut unnecessary frontend payloads without hacks.

How It Works

  1. Install and activate the plugin.
  2. Add a filter to your theme’s functions.php or a custom plugin:
add_filter('simple_dequeue', function() {
    return [
        'woocommerce-layout',
        'contact-form-7',
        'jquery',
    ];
});

That’s it. The specified handles will be dequeued site-wide.

Installation

  1. Upload the simple-dequeue folder to /wp-content/plugins/.
  2. Activate it via the WordPress admin.
  3. Add your simple_dequeue filter to disable specific assets.

Requirements

  • WordPress 5.0+
  • PHP 7.2+

Open Source

This plugin is intentionally minimal and open source. Extend it or fork it as needed.
